Terms of service
The agreement covering your use of Home Water Compass. Reading time: about four minutes — and the important parts are not hidden.
1. Acceptance
By using homewatercompass.com (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. What the Service is — and is not
Home Water Compass is an independent consumer decision guide. We help you identify your likely water source, understand publicly reported information about it, organize what you have noticed, and choose a next step: learn more, obtain a suitable test, compare products, or request contact from one local professional.
The Service is not:
- a water utility, laboratory, regulator or government program;
- a test of the water at your tap — area-level information reflects reporting for a water system, not conditions at an individual address;
- medical, health, legal or engineering advice;
- a guarantee that any water is safe or unsafe — we do not produce safety scores, and no honest area-level service can.
3. Emergencies and official guidance
If you have reason to believe your water poses an immediate health risk — an official advisory, flooding affecting a well, sudden contamination signs — follow the guidance of your utility, local health department or emergency services first. Nothing on this Service replaces official public-health direction.
4. Informational content
Educational content, reports and recommendations are provided for general informational purposes. We work to keep data sourced, dated and reviewed (see our methodology and data sources), but we do not warrant that any value is complete, current or applicable to your specific tap. Symptoms are treated as clues, not diagnoses, and we say so throughout the Service.
5. Professional matching
- When you request contact, your request goes to the one provider named on your screen, and only after you submit it.
- We are not a party to any agreement between you and a provider. Providers are independent businesses responsible for their own quotes, work, licensing and warranties.
- We screen participating providers as described in our partner standards, but we do not guarantee the availability, pricing, quality or outcome of any provider's work.
- Participating providers pay us for qualified requests. Compensation does not determine whether a professional route fits your situation.
6. Products, tests and affiliate links
Some links on the Service are affiliate links, disclosed where they appear. We may earn a commission if you purchase through them. Products and tests are shown based on fit and verified claims, not compensation. Purchases happen on the merchant's or laboratory's site under their terms; we are not the seller and we are not a laboratory.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to: misuse the Service to harass providers or submit false requests; probe, scrape or disrupt the Service; attempt to access other users' data; or use the Service for any unlawful purpose. We may limit or terminate access to protect the Service and its users.
8. Intellectual property
The Service, including its content, design, decision logic and branding, is owned by KYCASEWORKS LLC or its licensors and protected by law. You may use the Service for personal, non-commercial household decisions. Utility data and public records remain subject to their own sources' terms.
9. Third-party sites
Links to utilities, certification databases, merchants, laboratories and providers lead to sites we do not control and are provided for convenience. Their content and practices are their own.
10. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY REPORTED DATA REFLECTS THE WATER AT YOUR TAP, OR THAT ANY RECOMMENDED CATEGORY, PRODUCT, TEST OR PROFESSIONAL WILL RESOLVE YOUR SITUATION.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, KYCASEWORKS LLC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE OR FROM ANY PROVIDER, MERCHANT OR LABORATORY YOU ENGAGE THROUGH IT. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100). SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless KYCASEWORKS LLC from claims arising out of your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms.
13. Changes to the Service or Terms
We may modify the Service or these Terms. Material changes will be posted here with an updated date; continued use after changes means acceptance. If you do not agree, stop using the Service.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New Castle County, Delaware, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
15. Miscellaneous
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
