Tier 3 notice: one missed routine monitoring sample (Revised Total Coliform Rule), May 2025

The City of Phoenix must collect 360 routine samples each month to monitor total coliform, E. coli and chlorine. In May 2025 the City mistakenly counted six repeat verification samples in the total and completed 359 of the 360 required routine samples, so it cannot be certain of water quality during that period. According to the utility, the incident posed no health risk: no E. coli was found and chlorine levels were within EPA limits. It states it will schedule more than 360 routine samples per month and use real-time electronic reports to prevent recurrence.
